The main angle of the lathe tool

The main geometry and selection of the lathe tool

1) the angle between the rake face and the base surface measured in the orthogonal plane of the rake angle of the front rake. The positive and negative direction of the front corner is indicated by the illustration, that is, the tool rake face is the forward rake under the base plane, and the tool rake face is the negative front angle on the base surface. The front angle is usually selected between -5 and 25 degrees.

The principle of the front corner selection: the size of the front corner mainly solves the contradiction between the robustness and sharpness of the cutter head. Therefore, we must first select the rake angle according to the hardness of the processed materials. The hardness of the processing material is high, the front angle takes a small value, and vice versa takes a large value. Secondly, the size of the front angle should be taken into account according to the processing properties. The small value of the front corner should be taken in rough machining, and the large value should be taken before the finish machining.

2) the angle between the main rake face and the cutting plane measured in the orthogonal plane. The rear corner can not be zero or negative, usually between 6 and 12 degrees.

The principle of corner selection: first consider the processing properties. In the finishing process, the rear corner takes a large value, while the rough machining takes a small value at the back corner. Secondly, considering the hardness of the processing material, the hardness of the processing material is high, and the small value of the main rear corner is adopted to enhance the firmness of the cutter head; on the contrary, the rear corner should take a small value.
