Heat treatment process of machine knife

The heat treatment of machine knives can be roughly divided into: surface strengthening treatment, surface anti-corrosion treatment and surface repair treatment.


The surface strengthening treatment process is surface quenching, and the machine knives rapidly heats the knife raw material during the heat treatment process. The heat source is mainly concentrated on the surface of the workpiece, the heating speed block, and the thermal efficiency is high.


The heat treatment process of mechanical blades generally includes four basic processes: annealing, normalizing, quenching and tempering.


Heating temperature is one of the important process parameters of the machine knife heat treatment process. Selecting and controlling the heating temperature is the main problem to ensure the quality of the machine knife. The heating temperature varies depending on the material of the knife to be treated and the purpose of the heat treatment, and is generally heated above the phase transition temperature to obtain a high temperature structure.


In the heat treatment process, the machine knife has a short heating time, a small amount of surface oxidative decarburization, a small overall deformation of the workpiece, and high production efficiency. After heating and quenching, the surface hardness of the machine knife is greatly improved, the notch sensitivity is decreased, and the brittleness of the knife is increased, which can be adjusted according to the requirements of the machine knife.


Heating is one of the important processes in the heat treatment of machine knife. There are many heating methods for metal heat treatment. The first use of charcoal and coal as a heat source, liquid and gaseous fuels are used today. Electrical applications make heating easy to control and environmentally friendly. These heat sources can be used for direct heating, or by indirect heating of molten salt or metal, or suspended particles of steel structure.
